The Art of Project Planning: A Game Development Strategy
In the recent weeks, our team has been deeply immersed in the "Game Development Strategy" for our project, "Under Choices." We've been setting deadlines, identifying milestones, and outlining potential risks, all while establishing a comprehensive schedule. The goal? To ensure our game development process is as smooth and efficient as possible.
Dissecting the Project: The Work Breakdown Structure
Our first major task was to create a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for our project. This involved dissecting our final game into 'Epics' related to each division of labour and further subdividing these Epics into 'Stories' and 'Subtasks,' each with their own deliverables.
This process was not only beneficial for the project manager but also for the entire team. It helped us visualize the key elements required to complete our game and identify our project's 'terminal elements.' This solid foundation allows us to plan our future moves effectively.
Identifying Risks: The Premortem Workshop
With our project properly dissected via the WBS, we turned our attention to risk analysis. We conducted a 'premortem' workshop, where we imagined the worst-case scenarios that could occur during the development of our project.
This exercise allowed us to identify and organize potential risks by impact and probability. By doing so, we can closely monitor the most relevant risks and ensure they're under control.
The Sailboat Workshop: Navigating the Sea of Risks
The sailboat workshop was another tool we used to identify potential risks. This method allowed us to visualize our project as a boat, with the wind representing the driving forces that push the project forward and the anchors representing the risks or problems that slow it down. This exercise helped us to prioritize our efforts and resources effectively.
Commitment and Responsibility
With our project properly structured and potential risks identified, we are now distributing our stories and subtasks in our calendar. We are ensuring that all tasks are properly distributed in our Roadmap during the subsequent production steps with their respective Sprints already assigned.
In conclusion, our journey in developing "Under Choices" is a testament to our commitment to creating a game that is not only engaging but also user-friendly. Our meticulous planning and risk analysis, coupled with our dedication to a player-centric approach, are the driving forces behind our project. As we continue to navigate through the development process, we remain excited and passionate about bringing our vision to life.
Until next time,
