Game Development: Addressing Feedback and Refining Mechanics in Under Choices
Over the past few weeks, our team has been laser-focused on the final details needed to complete Under Choices. We've conducted another round of playtesting, which has proven to be an invaluable tool in our development process. The feedback we received from these sessions has given us a clear understanding of the areas we need to improve.
Playtesting is a crucial part of game design. It's not just about finding bugs or technical issues; it's about understanding how players interact with our game and how they perceive its mechanics and narrative. It's about seeing the game through the players' eyes and using that perspective to refine and improve the experience.
Prioritizing Core Experience
As we approach the project's deadline, we've had to make some tough decisions about what features and elements to prioritize. We've decided to focus on polishing what we already have, ensuring that the core game experience is as engaging and enjoyable as possible.
This decision was not made lightly. We carefully reviewed our to-do list and decided to cut anything that was not essential to the core game experience. This doesn't mean these elements were unimportant; it just means that we had to prioritize the elements that would have the most significant impact on the player's experience.
The Role of Sound Design
In the last few weeks, we've also been working hard on implementing sounds and music into our game. Sound design is a critical aspect of game development that often goes unnoticed by players, but it can significantly impact the overall gaming experience.
We've been using Fmod as an audio middleware to facilitate the implementation of our audio samples in Unity. This tool has been incredibly helpful, allowing us to modify samples on the fly and avoid the need to go back to our main DAW every time an audio file needs slight modifications.
Even though our game's sounds are still in the mixing and mastering stages, being able to play our latest build with background music and sound feedback has been a game-changer. It's a stark reminder of how vital sound design is to the game experience and how it can significantly affect the players' emotions.
The Final Stretch
With the final stretch of our project in sight, our team is gearing up for another round of playtesting with our latest build. We want to ensure that the changes we've made have had the desired effects and that our game is as polished as it can be.
We're excited to be nearing the end of our project, and we can't wait to share the final product with you all. We hope that our passion for this project shines through in the final game and that you enjoy playing it as much as we've enjoyed creating it.
Until next time,
Zizo Mass
